‘Tis the season!

Everyone at Culips is getting ready to relax and be with friends and family this holiday season! We are currently working on our Christmas episode. A great way to to learn English with this episode is to sit back and have some egg nog (a traditional holiday drink).

One thing that always get me in the Christmas spirit is Christmas music. When I was young we always decorated the Christmas tree as a family and listened to Nat King Cole’s Christmas album.

I especially remember the song I posted below because one Christmas my sister had lost her two front teeth. Check out the song with the lyrics.

And here is a video from the television movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which is a real classic and one of my favourites! If you listen closely, lyrics in the song tell the whole story of Rudolph. Do you know the story of Rudolph?

Movember

It’s the month of November and I have been seeing quite a number of men with moustaches around! I found out recently this is because of Movember. For more information you can go to their website: www.movember.com.

Movember is a charity event that happens during the month of November. What happens is that men grow moustaches to raise money and awareness of men’s health. The Movember Foudation has been around for only a few years, but I have never heard of it or noticed it before this year. It started in Australia and New Zealand before they launched a campaign in Canada in 2004. The Canadian website is here.

Movember is made up of two words: moustache and November. Coincidentally, our free Culips episode next week is about two words that have been blended together to make one word.  Don’t forget to check it out! It’s a fantabulous (fantastic and fabulous) episode!

Summertime Adventures

Hello!

Most of us at Culips have been away from the blog, enjoying the summer, and just now are accepting that fall is here and the cold winter weather is coming! There are leaves all over the ground and we need to wear a jacket to go outside now. Brrrr!

I had a really great summer. I got to go camping, and see beautiful beaches, and visit a very well-known city and its sites. Check out the amazing picture below that I took. This was one of the most impressive things that I have ever seen! I really enjoy interesting and modern architecture.

Does anyone know about this crazy building or who built it? Answer in the blog comments if you do!

?

Where is this?

Where is this?

And here is a picture at the same building complex with me in it!

Can you tell which one is me?

Be in touch again soon,

Twins Parade

Ha ha ha!

The Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal just ended last weekend. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Twins Parade. I had heard of it before but I had never attended. It was super interesting and fun to watch!

The concept for the Twins Parade is very simple – Lots of twins walking down the street together. This year the theme was a ball, which is a fancy, formal evening dance party, so the twins were dressed up. You can find out more about it here at their website.

There were twins dancing around and twins being driven around. There were twin (and triplet) babies. There was also a set of twins in carriage who were said to be 100 years old. Every once in awhile you might meet someone who is a twin, but is was strangely fun to see so many at once!

Here is some footage from the Twins Parade shot by my friend who was also there!

Joy!

Hello Culips Listeners!

I always get comments from friends and strangers on my t-shirt from the company called Joy T-shirt . It is quite a unique t-shirt and often catches people’s eyes. My t-shirt has a picture of a man named Dan on it who is from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. On  Joy T-shirt ‘s website you can buy a t-shirt with someone’s face on it from 6 continents. It is a Canadian company based in Toronto, Ontario. The concept of the t-shirt is this:  “When you wear your shirt you are encouraged to think about that person and how your everyday actions can affect others and the world we live in.” I think this is an excellent motto!

All the faces on the t-shirts on the website are REAL people! You can view all the t-shirts on the website and also find out a little bit of information about each person: their name, location, and passion. After you buy a shirt you are then able to send in a photo of yourself to be made into a t-shirt. Since I bought my t-shirt I have sent in a photo and there is a t-shirt with my face on it too! Can you find me at Joy T-shirt?

Here I am wearing my Dan t-shirt.
