Is the metaverse our future reality or just a dystopian fantasy? In this episode, Andrew and Anna talk all about virtual reality and share their opinions on how they see the future of the metaverse.
Chatterbox is a Culips series designed for intermediate and advanced English learners. This series features native speakers having natural conversations about fascinating topics that help you improve your English listening and speaking skills. Plus, you might learn something interesting along the way!
You might think that the concept of the metaverse is recent, but did you know that the idea of virtual reality, or VR, dates all the way back to 1838? That’s when the VR headset of the 19th century—the stereoscope—was invented by an English scientist, Charles Wheatstone.

Hi,
Thank you for your great effort for Culips.
I just want to empress my impression of the BGM :
I prefer to listen Culips without BGM.
Because I cannot concentrate on the conversation. A part of my brain starts to count the beat …. (so the biginning of this chatterbox was OK)
I may have concentration problems, but I’d like to minimize my distractions if possible.
Best,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We really appreciate your feedback and understand how the background music can be a distraction for some listeners.
We’ll definitely keep your suggestion in mind and make sure to avoid using background music in the future. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and for studying with this episode 🙂
